Fujian shipbuilders record rise in newbuild export value

Fujian shipbuilders record rise in newbuild export value
China’s Fujian provincial government has released data showing a rise in the export value of new ships for the first three quarters of this year compared to the year-ago period.

From January to September 2016, shipbuilders of the southeastern Fujian province exported new ships valued at a combined RMB3.24bn ($478.91m), an increase of 17.1% compared to the same period of 2015.

The newbuild vessels are mainly sold to Norway, Europe, Hong Kong and Latin America, with main ship types being offshore vessels and more than 20,000-dwt capacity roro vessels.

The local government stated that Fujian province’s shipbuilding capacity, already smaller compared to other bigger shipbuilding provinces such as Zhejiang and Jiangsu, have been rationalised in the face of severe oversupply.

In the first half of 2016, Fujian shipbuilders completed construction on 175 ships and repaired 973 vessels.

The main shipyards in Fujian province include Fujian Xiamen Heavy Industry, Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and Fujian Southeast Shipyard.
