Mumbai: The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (G E Shipping) has confirmed that it is to bolster its dry bulk fleet with two newbuild Kamsarmax dry bulk carriers. 'The vessels will be built at STX shipyard in Korea,' a spokesperson for the company told SeatradeAsia-Online, adding that the company also has 4 LR1 product tankers on order at the yard.
The Kamsarmax vessels, which are approximately 80,700dwt each, are expected to join GE Shipping's fleet during the fourth quarter of 2010-11 and the first quarter of 2011-12 respectively.
In a statement to the press, the company said that it's 'decision to acquire the bulk carriers is aimed at augmenting its dry bulk fleet and at participating in the strong demand projected in the bulk commodities in the medium term.'
GE Shipping's current fleet stands at 48 vessels comprising 36 tankers (14 crude carriers, 20 product tankers and two LPG carriers) and 12 dry bulk carriers. [15/10/07]
