Mumbai: The Great Eastern Shipping Company has placed an order for two 57,000dwt Supramax dry bulk carriers with Cosco (Zhoushan) Shipyard for delivery by the end of 2009 and 2010 respectively.
In a statement, GE Shipping said, "The objective of ordering these dry bulk vessels is with a view to enhance tonnage and participate in the increasing opportunities in the dry bulk commodities trade." The company also has two Kamsarmax vessels on order, both of which will be operational in GE Shipping's fleet by end 2012.
The company's current order book comprises eight vessels - four LRI product tankers aggregating 300,000dwt and four dry bulk carriers aggregating 270,000dwt. [06/12/07]
