Germanischer Lloyd inaugurates Dalian office

Dalian: Germanischer Lloyd marked the opening of its new offices in Dalian with an open day and a ceremonial dinner hosted by station manager Tian Tao last week. More than 150 yard representatives and equipment suppliers from Dalian and the surrounding area attended the event.

A special congratulatory speech was delievered by Pan Yan Zhong, vice director of Tian Jin Xingang Shipyard, whose current projects with GL include a series of 13,000dwt multipurpose vessels. He thanked the classification society for the technical support and service orientation it had provided since the beginning of the cooperation between the two companies almost ten years ago.

GL's station in the North East of China was founded in 1998 and has since grown to a team of 20 surveyors and supporting staff. Twelve shipyards in the area are currently working on newbuildings with GL class.

Throughout China as a whole, GL has more than 350 ships under its class on order at almost 50 shipyards. With its Country Office. Area Office China, Approval Services East Asia and the Division Office East Asia all located in Shanghai, as well as offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Jiangyin, Nanjing, Wuhan, Kaohsiung, Dalian and Ningbo, GL says it now employs a workforce of over 175 in the 'Greater China' region.  [26/10/06]
