Shanghai: Dr Volkmar Wasmandorff has succeeded Hergen Thielemann as Germanischer Lloyd's new vice president Division East Asia. A mechanical and process engineer by training, Wasmandorff was previously vp marketing for industrial plant design and construction company Uhde GmbH in South East Asia, also responsible for business development in South West Asia.
Thielemann's contribution to GL was honoured at a special 65th birthday reception held in Shanghai this week, attended by more than 150 guests from all over Asia. Executive Board member Dr Hermann Klein noted how Thielemann had overseen 420 employees in 14 different countries, and that GL had supervised newbuildings at 230 shipyards in Asia under his management. As vp for East Asia he had initially been based in Singapore but relocated to Shanghai in 2004. [27/10/06]
