Hanoi: Germanischer Lloyd marked the opening of representative offices in Hanoi and coastal shipbuilding city Haiphong, both in the northern part of the country, at a special reception in the Vietnamese capital on Friday. Dr Volkmar Wasmansdorff, new group md for East Asia, reminded the 60-strong local and international audience that GL had been present in Vietnam since 1995, when it opened its first office in Ho Chi Minh City, and now has a dedicated team of 20 in the country and almost 30 vessels on order under GL class. As well as newbuilding classification, the German society offers a full range of fleet in service, drydocking and certification services from its three offices. Vietnam country manager Thanh Binh also announced the introduction of a series of training seminars of the GL Academy to take place in both Ho Chi Ming City and Hanoi. [13/11/06]
