HFW celebrates 40 years in Hong Kong

Leading shipping law firm Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) celebrated its 40th year in Hong Kong this week with an extravagant celebration at the prestigious Hong Kong Club.

Some 200 guests including a number of partners from HFW’s international offices including Nicholas Poynder (Shanghai), Gavin Vallely (Melbourne), Richard Strubb (Dubai), George Eddings (London), Toby Stephens (Singapore) and Yaman Al Hawamedh (Dubai) attended the celebration.

Richard Crump, global senior partner (Singapore) and Henry Fung, Hong Kong office head offered a toast in celebration of the occasion, with Crump noting that while the firm has built its reputation on shipping and still maintains a solid practice in the sector, HFW has broadened its scope and now has excellent expertise in other areas as well.

The Hong Kong office was established in 1978 by former partners Charles Lowe and Tim Boden as the first HFW office in the Asia Pacific and is now the second largest office after the firm’s London head office.

HFW boasts a collaborative team of more than 60 lawyers across its Hong Kong and Shanghai offices and continues to add to its expertise with the recent recruitment of Ben Bury, a construction arbitration specialist as Partner in the construction team.

HFW currently has six regional offices in the region with over 150 lawyers focusing on Aerospace, Commodities, Construction, Energy & Resources, Insurance and Shipping.

HFW continues to be recognised as the leading shipping firm across the Asia Pacific and among the numerous awards the Hong Kong office has picked up are the 2017 Hong Kong Law Awards - Shipping Law Firm of the year, 2017 Asia Pacific Dispute Resolution Awards - Best in shipping & maritime and the 2017 – 18 China Business Law Journal Awards where HFW was recognised for leading practices in Insurance and Reinsurance, International Trade and Shipping.
