Seoul: Hyundai Heavy Industries has delivered the fourth vessel in a series of 4,154teu containerships, the Safmarine Makutu (pictured), to South Africa based Safmarine Industries. The vessel, christened last week, will join its sisterships - Safmarine Mafadi, Safmarine Mulanje and Safmarine Meru - on the company's Asia and Southern Africa 'Safari 1' service next month.
Safmarine Makutu's entry into service on Safari 1 will replace the Maersk Toba, a vessel of similar size already deployed to the service.
The Safari 1 service offers the following port rotation:
Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Durban, Cape Town, Port Louis, Tanjung Pelepas, Hong Kong.
Safmarine is also expected to take delivery of two 6160teu vessels from Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction next year as well as six long-term charter vessels. [31/08/07]
