Seoul: Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction has secured a $300m contract for the construction of five 3,400 teu container vessels for Danaos Corporation. The vessels, due for delivery beginning November 2009 through to June 2010, are the latest in a spate of orders that Danos has placed with the yard.
"Following the recent deal we announced with Hanjin Heavy Industries regarding orders for five Post- Panamax vessels, we now conclude one more deal for five additional Panamax vessels," said Dr. Coustas, Danaos ceo told the Shipping Times, adding that the company "will take delivery of these vessels at a time when building berths for large containerships around the world are becoming increasingly hard to find."
HHI recently received the first order in Korea for Diving Support Vessels from a foreign company. The two vessels, ordered by United Arab Emirates based GULMAR, will be 6,200 dwt and are valued at $220m. [13/04/07]
