HHIC offloads unwanted 6,500teu boxship at huge discount

Seoul: Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction is reported to have sold a CMA CGM boxship newbuilding at a knockdown price after the French owner failed to take delivery.
The 6,500teu capacity, CMA CGM Kessel built by HHIC was sold by the yard for $45m, to Greek buyers, believed to be George Economou, according to broker reports.
The CMA CGM Kessel was one of a series of four 6,500teu newbuildings ordered by CMA CGM for a total of $400m back in 2006. The four vessels should have been delivered to the financially troubled French line in the second half of last year. Unknown is the amount of payments to date made by CMA CGM.  [25/01/10]
