HIT promises dock workers better pay this year

HIT promises dock workers better pay this year
Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) is improving conditions for its dock workers, announcing that all subcontract workers would be guaranteed a pay rise higher than the inflation rate, which last year came in at 4.3%, the company said on the sidelines of an event at the weekend.

Subcontractors were also warned that their contracts would be at stake if they fail to treat their workers fairly. HIT suffered from a massive port strike lasting over a month last year.

HIT assistant general manager for operations Franco Ning said the company has implemented more than 20 measures to improve the working conditions of dock workers, including renovating the operating cabs of some cranes and installing 17 additional washrooms in the container yard area.
