Hong Kong Marine department to appoint new marine director
Hong Kong Marine Department has announced that a change of senior appointment as its current director of marine Michael Wong will step down by the end of August.

Wong will move on to assume the post of permanent secretary for development (planning and lands) on 31 August, a government statement said.

Maisie Cheng, currently director of government logistics at the department, will take over from Wong as the director of marine on 15 September.

Cheng, 54, joined the administrative service in September 1987 and has been director of government logistics since January 2013.

She has served in various bureaux and departments, and was commissioner for television and entertainment licensing from July 2007 to January 2010, and deputy secretary for transport and housing (transport) from February 2010 to June 2012.

Commenting on the appointments, the secretary for the civil service, Clement Cheung, said: “The appointees are seasoned administrative officers with rich experience in public administration as well as proven leadership and management skills.”

Being the administrator of the port, Hong Kong Marine Department’s principal functions are to ensure safe operation of the port and all Hong Kong waters as well as to operate the Hong Kong Shipping Register and safeguard the quality of the Hong Kong registered ships.
