Hong Kong: The Government has awarded the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) $4m in seed funding to set up the Hong Kong Maritime Scholarship Scheme. The scheme is designed to attract local and mainland graduates to pursue further studies in maritime-related studies in Hong Kong, and thereafter to join the Hong Kong maritime cluster.
"The Scheme, supported by the Hong Kong Maritime Industries Council (MIC), will help build up an elite workforce for the Hong Kong maritime industry to sustain its development and enhance its service quality," said Ms Eva Cheng, Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour.
The funding will cover up to 10 students taking the full-time MSc degree in International Shipping and Transport logistics offered by the PolyU who pledge to work full time in HK's maritime industry for at least one year after completing their studies. [14/06/07]
