Hong Kong moves to bolster river trade

Hong Kong: In a bid to get more river traffic calling at its port, Hong Kong's Economic Development and Labour Bureau is lining up a number of incentives for ratification at the Hong Kong Legislative Council, including a multiple entry permit system for ships calling as well as lower tariffs. The legislation will go before LegCo on October 25. In the first three quarters of the year, Hong Kong port, the second busiest boxport in the world, saw a throughput of 17.71m teu.   [19/10/06]
