Hong Kong port volumes plunge 7.3% in September
Container throughput at the Port of Hong Kong plunged 7.3% in September, falling to 1.79m teu from 1.93m teu in September 2013.

Month-on-month volumes also fell from the 1.88m boxes moved in August. The bulk of the falls came from the midstream operators sector, with volumes at the non-Kwai Tsing terminals falling 26.5% to 370,000 teu from 503,000 teu previously. Throughput at the main Kwai Tsing terminals saw a more muted fall of just 0.5% or around 700,000 teu to 1.42m teu.T

his trend is repeated in the cumulative figures, with year-to-date volume rising 1.5% to 16.80m teu while volumes at non-Kwai Tsing terminals fell 12.2% to 3.4m teu.
