Hyundai Heavy clinches $1.03bn drillship order

Seoul: Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) won a $1.03bn order on Wednesday to build two deepwater drillships for Noble Drilling Holding. The South Korean shipyard, the world's biggest, also clinched an option for Noble Drilling to order two additional same class drillships. The drillships, measuring 229 m in length and 36 m in width with a maximum drilling depth of 3.6km, are scheduled to be delivered by September 2013. HHI had also in January received another drillship order from Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. This meant that HHI won all the three deepwater drillships ordered in the global shipbuilding market so far this year. [19/01/11]
