Seoul: Finland's ESL Shipping has ordered two 56,150-dwt supramax bulkers at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Korea. ??They will be delivered during the first half of 2012 for EUR 60m ($78.1m). ??The vessels are far bigger than its largest ships at present, which are 20,000 dwt.
??Boss Markus Karjalainen told the Scandinavian Shipping Gazette: "The Baltic Sea cargo markets will continue growing as the economic development in the area recovers. ??"Simultaneously the need to transport raw materials around the year with ever-growing vessels is increasing. ??"At the same time, we can participate in new projects where transportation reliability around the year is crucial." ??
Last year, ESL cancelled one of two 18,800-dwt bulkers it had on order at ABG Shipyard in India due to delays. [11/05/10]
