Ulsan: Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) of Korea has delivered the first ever liquid petroleum gas carrier to join the fleet of blue-chip Greek tanker operator Eletson Corporation.
The 22,010dwt Anafi, constructed to Lloyd's Register class, is the first of a series of four LPG ships being built for Eletson by HMD. The vessel has a length of 165 metres, a breadth of 28 metres and a moulded depth of 17.8 metres, with engine power of 9,480 kW.
Commenting on this new ship and new venture, Nikos Makris, Eletson's Chief Operating Officer said: "For the past four decades, Eletson has built an enviable reputation as a leader in the transportation of oil products. Today, we are committed to reinforcing and expanding into other energy transportation sectors, by investing heavily in modern and technologically advanced tonnage."
Lloyd's Register worked with Eletson and HMD at all stages of construction. During construction the ship was surveyed and monitored to meet the requirements of Lloyd's Register's ShipRight construction monitoring procedures, designed to enhance fatigue performance during a vessel's operational life. In addition, a higher standard of bridge layout and visibility was selected - to the requirements of Lloyd's Register's NAV1 Class Notation. [18/02/09]
