Sydney: New Zealand authorities have issued a marine hazard warning due to a number of icebergs seen drifting in international shipping lines. The largest of the icebergs, which were spotted by a Royal New Zealand Air Force plane on a routine fisheries patrol, is estimated to be about 1.2 by 0.9 miles and more than 425 feet high. They have been deemed to pose a serious threat since, in addition to blocking shipping lanes, the northernmost iceberg was less than 200 miles from the city of Invercargill, the closest an iceberg has been to the New Zealand mainland since 1930.
