Manila: Philippine based port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) recently announced that it will expand its flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) so it can handle more than 2m teu starting next year, 25 percent more than the present capacity of 1.6m teu.
No financial details were provided but earlier estimates showed ICTSI would need at least P1 billion for MICT's expansion, its first since 2004.
By next year, ICTSI terminals all over the world will have a total capacity of 7m teu from the current 5m teu.
The 2009 estimate already includes the Colombian port, still in the planning stage of construction, which can handle up to 500,000 teu. [29/4/08]
