Idle boxship fleet to hit 1.1m teu by year end
Singapore: The idle boxship fleet is expected to hit 1.1m teu by the end of 2012, Alphaliner forecasts. In its weekly report Alphaliner said the idle fleet stood 840,000 teu ot 5.4% of total slot capacity on 27 February.

A total of 12 ships over 8,000 teu were reported to be idle, with the largest being the 13,000 teu Maersk Evora.

“The number of idle ships is expected to continue to rise until the end of the year when it is forecast to hit 1.1m teu. However, the pace of idling is expected to slow down over the next few months as several services that were suspended for the winter slack season are to be reactivated for the summer season,” Alphaliner said.
