Mumbai: The Indian government disclosed a new policy on Thursday to invest RS5trn in shipping industry by 2020 to improve the ports capacity to 3.2bn tonnes.
"The Maritime Agenda 2020 is a perspective plan that replaces the current National Maritime Development Project. We plan to take our port capacity to 3200 million tonnes (MT) from 617 MT on 31 March, 2010,"G. K. Vasan, minister of shipping said.
For the RS5trn, RS3trn will be invested in port sector while the other RS2trn for shipping sector. [14/01/11]
