Indian maritime organisations come together

Mumbai: Three of the country's leading maritime professional organizations - - Institution of Naval Architects (INA), Institute of Marine Engineers (India) (IMEI) and Company of Master Mariners of India (CMMI) - have come together to establish the Federation of Maritime Professional Organisations (FMPO) as 'a common platform to help the growth of the long neglected but important sector'. ?
"Professionally, shipping activities have three components - navigating, engineering and shipbuilding. The three wings of the shipping have their own separate bodies catering to their respective members. But now with the three coming together we will be much more stronger," MV Ramamurthy, president of IMEI, said. ?
The FMPO aims to evolve a consensual approach on common issues concerning the maritime industry and act as a nodal point for consultation for national and international governmental and statutory bodies. ?It will also strive to provide expert inputs to the government, state governments and industry on technical, professional and policy issues. An area where the federation will especially concentrate is to encourage and undertake combined research in maritime subjects including policy, education, training, employment, technical issues, rules and legal issues.
