Indonesia plans $2.5bn expansion of Jakarta port
Jakarta: Indonesia Port Corporation is planning to pump in more than S$2.5b to expand the country's main Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta.

The developments will help ease congestion and inadequate infrastructure issues at the port and triple annual capacity to more than 18m teu when it is completed in 2023.

The first phase of development, slated to start in July, will see the construction of three container terminals and two petroleum product terminals, with the first container terminal to be ready by 2014, While it is hoped that this will bring more direct calls to Jakarta, Indonesia port authorities do not believe this will conflict head-on with Singapore's transhipment business, of which nearly a fifth of goods bound for Indonesia passes through.
