Indonesian President highlights importance of transpacific trade served by CMA CGM from Jakarta

Indonesian President Joko Widodo highlighted the importance of the transpacific trade while visiting a CMA CGM vessel in Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) on Tuesday.

The Indonesian President accompanied by the Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, the Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita, the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, and the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Rini Soemarno, met with local staff from CMA CGM and crew of 9,365 teu CMA CGM Tage which was berthed at the terminal.

The vessel is deployed on the company’s JAX service between Southeast Asia and the US West Coast, with CMA CGM being the only shipping line to offer a direct service from Indonesia to the US West Coast. The majority of cargo to and from Indonesia for the long haul trades is transhipped via neighbouring Singapore or Malaysia.

The Indonesian President highlighted the importance of the transpacific trade and the major role played by CMA CGM in Indonesia.

The CMA CGM services carries export cargoes such as footwear, garment, tyres, electronic goods and frozen seafood to the US, reducing the transit times for exporters.
