Indonesia's Pelindo IV planning new port on border with Malaysia in Borneo
Indonesian state-owned port operator Pelindo IV plans to build an international seaport in Nunukan regency in North Kalimantan, on the border with Malaysia, local reports said.

Pelindo IV Nunukan operations manager Marihot Sigala was quoted as saying the company has allocated IDR100bn ($7m) and will start building the seaport this year.

"Previously, we announced that the budget would be IDR50bn. It turns out that it is almost IDR100bn," said Marihot.Marihot said management is still finalizing plans for the new seaport, which comes under the authority of the harbour master and the Nunukan port master."

The masterplan is in accordance with the provincial spatial planning regulations [RTRW] for long-term developments. The project is linked in with warehouses and roads. We have consulted with the Jakarta Development Planning Board [Bappeda], the transportation agency, and the Public Works Ministry to synchronize the zones for warehouses, terminals for passengers and public transportation," said Marihot.

The company is set to prepare 2.5 hectares of land for the new seaport.
