Mumbai: Indian Register of Shipping, which recently rebranded as IRClass, has opened new offices in Singapore and Qatar. 'Businesses are today looking towards global markets and therefore identify only with partners who can effectively service the requirements of global trade,' the classification society said in a statement. 'IRClass is responding by expanding its geographical reach and enhancing its technological base.' Besides the new offices the society has recently introduced e-learning modules for annual survey and initial general training of for its surveyors, to help ensure correct and consistent interpretation of its rules. An associate member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), IRClass currently has more than 1,000 ships aggregating some 8.75m gt under class. [12/09/06]
