Tokyo: The International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) reports that interest is steadily growing in this year's annual conference to be held at the Hotel New Otani complex in central Tokyo September 17-20, hosted by the General Insurance Association of Japan. Registrations to date suggest that attendance will equal the Singapore conference in 2004, when the total was nearly 400. The Middle East crisis, Iraq, Indonesia's latest tsunamai, hurricane damage, piracy and uncertainty surrounding the effects of revision of the Athens Convention will all make the meet especially timely, says IUMI president Patrick de La Morinerie.
