Mumbai: Japan this week has signed an MoU worth INR 100 crore to upgrade the many ship breaking yards at Alang to international requirements by way of technology transfer and financial assistance under a private public partnership. The project will take two to three years. ?The Gujarat Maritime Board said the Japanese aid would help upgrade the recycling yards, construct and operate a common hazardous waste removal pre treatment facility, develop ways to add value to steel products and improve human resources.
