Dubai: Dubai's DP World said on Tuesday it would keep container handling fees at the Jebel Ali port unchanged at 2008 levels and give local importers 10 days of free storage time to help them cope with global turmoil.
DP World, the world's third-largest container port handler by throughput, scrapped an earlier plan to increase fees at the request of clients, it said in a statement.
"We have listened to our customers, who are being impacted by the global economic slowdown, and have made the decision to maintain rates at 2008 levels and extend storage times," said Mohammed al-Muallem, DP World's UAE senior vice-president and managing director.
"This will give them a measure of relief as they plan for the year." [25/02/09]
