Jinhai Heavy earmarks $450m to transform into an ‘intelligent shipyard’
China’s Jinhai Heavy Industry has set aside RMB3bn ($450m) for use over a five-year period to invest in yard automation facility and intelligence program.

Jinhai said the focus will be on “intelligent manufacturing”, with an aim to fully upgrade the entire production line from hardware to software and to strengthen the automation system.

While the RMB3bn investment sum is set to be used over five years, the Chinese shipbuilder is anticipating as long as 10 years for the smart system to be fully integrated into the yard facilities.

Jinhai is currently sitting on an orderbook backlog of 72 ships including 10,000-teu and above containerships and large oil tankers.
