Johor ports to more than double capacity in 10 years
Major investments in new berths would more than double the capacity of Johor ports from 40m tonnes a year now to about 100m tonnes in in the next 10 years as cargo volume is expected to surge, local reports said.

Ports in the southern-most part of the state would see the most development, Johor Port Authority (JPA) general manager Muhammad Razif Ahmad was quoted as saying. He also revealed that three domestic and foreign port operators had shown strong investment interest but declined to reveal further details.

Muhammad Razif added that currently Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has 14 berths, Johor Port has 13, Tanjung Langsat Port has four and Pengerang Independent Deepwater Petroleum Terminal has six berths. PTP's Phase 3 expansion will see three berths being added with some 1.2km extra quay length, while expansion at Pengerang is ongoing.

He also noted that the development of southern-most parts of Johor into a new regional oil and gas (O&G) hub would boost volumes. Both Tanjung Langsat and the new Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) further to the northeast, would further boost operations of Johor ports, with the latter in particular seen driving cargo volumes when it is fully operational in 2025.
