K Line inks order for Newcastlemax bulker at Japan Marine United

Japanese shipowner K Line has inked a contract for a 210,000 dwt bulk carrier newbuilding with Japan Marine United (JMU).

The vessel is being built for a consecutive voyage contract with JFE Steel and will be used to ship iron ore and coal. The newbuild is due for delivery in fiscal year 2021.

The bulker will be fitted with a scrubber for compliance with IMO 2020 and meet the Phase 2 level of the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index), which applies to vessels contracted after 2020.
