Tokyo: Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) is set to branch out into the offshore vessel business, reports the Kaiji Press. Aker Yards announced on Nov. 1 that it has signed a contract to build four platform supply vessels (PSVs) and two anchor handlers (Ahs) for K Line for delivery in 2010-2011. K Line has founded a joint venture, K Line Offshore AS, with Norwegian ship management company OSM to own and manage the vessels.
Each of the 5,100-dwt PSVs will be 94.9 meters in LOA and run at a cruising speed of 16 knots. They are due for completion between the fourth quarter of 2010 and the third quarter of 2011. [05/11/07]
