Mumbai: "K" Line held a ceremony earlier this month to launch "K" Line Maritime Academy (India). Hosting the event was group president Hiroyuki Maekawa while chief guest was the Indian Government's Joint Director General of Shipping, Lukose Vallatharai (pictured).
KLMA is considered integral the group's new 'ship management structure to sustain safety and quality' that was announced in late May. In the new centre the umderlying philosophy is that "K" Line seafarers will be trained regardless nationality using "K" Line Basic Training Matrix and Basic Syllabus.
For captains and navigational officers, the Academy will conduct simulator-based training for prevention of ship collisions and grounding. It is also equipped with a cargo handling simulator for crude oil tankers (VLCC & Aframax), product tankers, LPG and LNG carriers. In addition, tanker officers will also train on an Auto Unloading System (AUS) simulator specially designed for KLMA which is the first of its type in the world.
Full simulator-based training is likewise available for engineers and chief engineers, with special emphasis on trouble-shooting. [07/06/07]
