"K" Line receives new 85,600dwt coal carrier

Tokyo: Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha has taken delivery this week of the first of a new 85,600dwt type of coal carriers built at Oshima Shipbuilding. The vessel, Corona Lions, marks a further evolution of its 10-strong Corona-series of coal carriers specially designed with a wide beam and shallow draft to facilitate entry and cargo discharge at ports near domestic thermal power plants. Specifications of the five hold/five hatch design are loa:228.05mtrs; beam 36.5mtr; depth: 19.89mtrs. "K" Line has a further five vessels on order to meet the growing demand for thermal coal transportation, one of which will be delivered later this year. [23/01/07]
