Taipei: Despite posting record numbers, Taiwan's premier port failed once again in surpassing the 10m teu mark last year. Figures just released show Kaohsiung, in the south of the island, posted an all-time high throughput of 9,774,670 teu for 2006, up approximately 300,000 teu from the previous year. Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau entered long-term container berth lease agreements last year with Hanjin Shipping, Wan Hai Lines and APL. The bureau is confident that the port, once the third largest box destination in the world, will finally surpass 10m teu this year. [08/01/06]
