Keppel completes first new-generation pipelayer for deepsea operations

Singapore: Keppel Singmarine has successfully delivered Global 1200, the first of a new generation of derrick pipelay vessels, to Global Industries. A sistership is on track for delivery in Q2 2011.

Designed to set new performance benchmarks in pipelaying operations, the dynamically-positioned S-lay vessel GLOBAL 1200 is equipped with three tensioners of 125 tonnes each capable of laying pipes up to 63 inches in diameter and at a speed of 350 lengths of pipes per day.The vessel is designed to meet the stringent standard in safety and stability required by IMO SPS codes. More than 3 million incident-free man-hours were clocked on the construction of the 162 metre-long vessel at Keppel Singamarine, the specialised shipbuilding arm of Keppel Offshore & Marine.  [20/09/10]
