Keppel - Nakilat shipyard jv signs up 8 major customers

Qatar: Keppel Offshore and Marine's and Qatar Gas Transport Co's (Nakilat) new joint venture yard in Qatar has signed up eight major owners including Japan's "big three". Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine has signed letters of intent with Mitsui OSK Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Kawasake Kisen Kaisha (K Line), Idemitsu Tanker, Iino Kaiun Kaisha and Marine Contracting Services to provide shipyard and drydocking services. The new yard also signed a three-year fleet deal with Shell International Trading and Shipping Co for ship repair services and a memorandum of understanding with Gulf Drilling International. The joint venture yard was launched on Tuesday by Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang. [24/11/10]
