Keppel targets OSVs with new Brazil yard

Singapore: Keppel Offshore & Marine is acquiring a new yard in Brazil to focus on building offshore support vessels. Keppel has entered into an agreement with Brazil's TWB Group to acquire the Estaleiro TWB shipyard in Navegantes, Santa Catarina. The 7.6 hectare yard, with 300m of waterfront, will be operated by Keppel Singmarine. Keppel will invest a total of $50m in the yard including for modernisation and upgrading. "Petrobras has announced plans to charter some 147 locally-built Offshore Support Vessels over the next five years, with at least 70% of the work on each newbuild to be carried out within the country," said Chow Yew Yuen, president Americas for Keppel Offshore & Marine. "Through this new facility, we will bring our specialised shipbuilding expertise to the doorsteps of Brazil's offshore field development market to help satisfy the demand for robust support vessels." The yard is expected to be operational in the second half of 2010. [15/04/1
