The APBS is the main gateway to Surabaya's Tanjung Perak Port and would help in the development of new ports in Gresek and Tanjong Lamong, Transportation Ministry director general for sea transportation Bobby Mamahit was quoted as saying.
The concession period includes one year for pre-construction work and another year for construction and is expected to see a total investment of $73m. Work includes dredging to widen the route from 100 m to 150 m and deepen it to 13 m.
The project is expected to be completed in February 2015, and will be able to handle dry bulk carriers up to 90,000 dwt, tankers up to 65,000 dwt, liquefied natural (LNG) carriers up to 60,000 dwt and container ships of around 4,000 teu.
