Seoul: The Korean Register of Shipping (KR) has announced that it has set up a "flying squad" of experienced surveyors who are specially tasked with assisting vessels categorized as requiring "special attention" during Port State Control (PSC) inspections. The decision to set up the squad was taken by newly elected KR chairman and ceo, Oh Kong-gyun, who is determined to eliminate sub-standard ships under its class at all costs, particularly in the Paris MOU region.
The registry is also offering pre-inspection services for its classed vessels scheduled to enter a port where PSC inspection is expected. Owners are actively being encouraged to use this service - particularly those whose vessels are operating in European waters.
In a statement, the company said, "It is expected that these new initiatives, under the direct control of Oh Kong-gyun, will eliminate PSC detentions of KR classed vessels in all regions of the world."
KR plans to open additional offices in Europe and Africa to enable it to provide dedicated and faster services to its clients. [25/05/07]
