KPT opens new cement export terminal

Islamabad: Karachi Port Trust's (headquarters pictured) newly build $12m cement export terminal was inaugurated today by Pakistan's, Federal Minister for shipping and ports Babar Khan Ghori. The Lucky Cement storage and ship-loading terminal, located at berth no 25, boasts a capacity of 10,000-12,000 tonnes of cement per day and is expected to revitalise the country's cement export industry, which has faltered in light of cheaper port charges by neighbouring countries.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration, the minister said that ports are the spinal cord of the country's economy and spoke of his intention to modernise the Karachi port. He believes that this will ensure that the port will be listed as one of the best in the world.  [02/03/09]
