Seoul: Sooho Cho, late chairman of Hanjin Shipping (pictured) was posthumously granted the 'Honorary Port Pilot Award' by the Port of Long Beach in recognition of his contribution to the port's development. The award was presented to Mrs. Eun Young Choi, the wife of the late chairman at Hanjin Shipping Headquarters on February 8. The award has been presented to those individuals who have significant achievements in shipping and international trade since 1954. Previous winners include Alfred B. 'Ted' Ruhly, former chairman Maersk and Maersk Line and former prime minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew.
Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard D. Steinke said, "I am grateful to Hanjin Shipping for contributing to the development of the local economy by creating jobs and many other ways in this area since 1991. The late chairman Sooho Cho had excellent management skills, which led the company to a world class status. I hope our continued relationships will benefit the economic development of the United States and South Korea."
Hanjin Shipping's 375-acre dedicated terminal at the Port of Long Beach is the second largest dedicated container terminal in the United States. [09/02/07]
