Liaoning ports unite

Liaoning ports unite

Shanghai:  Zhong Jiquan, Deputy Director of Liaoning Province's Development and Reform Commission, has announced that the northeast China province aims to build a port cluster, with Dalian Port at its core, and Yingkou, Dandong, Jinzhou and Huludao Ports acting as ancillary ports.

The different ports will focus on their individual advantages and cooperate together. Zhong Jiquan added that the ports may form a large joint stock group in the future, concentrating on Dalian Port. However, details of this plan have not yet been decided.

The move comes amid fears that Dalian is likely to experience overcapacity in the medium term with too many container berths scheduled for construction.  [19/04/07]
