LNG milestone for Ras Laffan Port

LNG milestone for Ras Laffan Port

Doha: Ras Laffan Port recently had five liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels loaded simultaneously, marking a milestone for LNG operations at the port. "With five operational LNG berths, the Port is already the World's premier LNG exporting facility. The scene of five LNG vessels loading occupying the five LNG berths simultaneously is something that we will get used to see more often," The Peninsula quoted Port officials as saying.

"This scene is only possible in Ras Laffan having the world's highest number of LNG berths. With the commissioning of the new Qatargas and RasGas trains, it would not be long before Ras Laffan Port accommodates six LNG vessels simultaneously in 2010. This will place Ras Laffan far ahead of any LNG facility in the world for years to come."

Qatar currently boasts LNG exports of about 54m tons per year fuelled by major Qatar Petroleum (QP) Joint Venture companies; Qatargas and RasGas, which are both based in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The country aims to increase exports to 77m tons per year by 2010.  [06/11/09]
