LR delivers first in series of specialist yard courses

Busan: Lloyd's Register's Marine Training Services has completed the first in a series of specialist training courses for shipyards in North Asia.
The course, delivered to STX Shipbuilding Co Ltd on the subject of membrane LNG carriers, is the first of two that will focus on design and strength considerations as well as the application of the International Gas Code and the impact of classification Rules for vessels using the NO96 containment system.
STX broke into the LNG construction market earlier this year after winning an order for two LNG tankers from the Spanish company Elcano. The vessels will be chartered by Stream LNG, the shipping arm of Spanish utilities giant Gas Natural Group. Following STX's debut in the LNG market, the importance of customised training, such as that provided by Lloyd's Register, has once again come to the fore.  [21/03/07]
