Singapore: Lloyd's Register Asia has been awarded a significant new contract by Singapore-based PetroProd Ltd for services related to the conversion of the MT ARC to a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.
The contract, won through the combined efforts of Lloyd's Register Asia's oil and gas and marine teams in Singapore, requires the company to provide classification and certification services to support the conversion of the 105,384 dwt Aframax tanker.
"This is the first major FPSO conversion project to be executed by PetroProd in Asia," says Oskar Loevaas, Project Manager for PetroProd. "Lloyd's Register Asia's responsiveness and sound technical advice to facilitate the transition from a trading tanker to an FPSO were key factors in making this award."
PetroProd, which specialises in mobile production and field development mainly for small and medium-sized oil fields, presently has the vessel anchored in Batam, Indonesia, where it is undergoing preparatory work for the conversion.
The conversion will be carried out in Singapore, during which the 22-year-old vessel will undergo a comprehensive "refurbishment and life-extension program", equipping it for an estimated field life of 15 years.  [20/06/07]
