MacGregor wins contract to equip ESL LNG-fuelled bulkers
Cargotec subsidiary MacGregor has sealed a new order to equip cranes and deck machinery on two of the world’s first LNG-fuelled bulk carriers.

The two new ice-class, 25,600 dwt handysize bulkers are designed by Deltamarin and owner ESL Shipping to introduce dual-fuel vessels to the drybulk market. The vessels are under construction by Sinotrans and CSC Shipbuilding Industry Cooperation's Qingshan shipyard in China.

Once delivered between end 2017 and early 2018, they will primarily be used to carry raw materials for steel and energy industries in the Gulf of Bothnia and Baltic Sea. Each will each be equipped with three MacGregor K3030-4 30-tonne mechanical grab cargo cranes, multi folding-type hatch covers (6+6), electrically-driven Hatlapa deck machinery and Porsgrunn steering gear.

The development yields much-needed revenue for MacGregor, which has suffered from low order volumes recently amid challenging market conditions. "These are exciting new bulk carriers and we are happy that our customer choose MacGregor to supply the extensive equipment package for the vessels," said Anders Berencsy, MacGregor sales manager. "ESL has operated MacGregor cranes and hatch covers for a number of years on several bulkers in its fleet.

“The fact that ESL has returned to MacGregor demonstrates the company's trust in our equipment and in MacGregor's ability to deliver the multi-discipline expertise required for complete equipment packages including Hatlapa deck machinery and Porsgrunn steering gear."
