Singapore: A.P. Moller-Maersk (APMM) has appointed Jesper Praestensgaard (pictured) as ceo for the group's interests in key South-east Asian markets such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and Cambodia. He succeeds Morten Engelstoft, who has been promoted to head of Line Operations in Maersk's headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Praestensgaard was previously group vp and head of sales planning at Maersk, Copenhagen. In his new role, he will be responsible for the implementation and execution of the global Maersk Container Business strategy in South East Asia. He has extensive experience working for Maeersk in the region, having spent three years in Singapore as md for Maersk Logistics Asia and subsequently three years as svp and head of Asia Line Management, He also spent several years working for the company in Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong and China.
Commenting on his responsibilities, Praestensgaard said: "While I look forward to be heading South-east Asia which is also one of our largest business areas, I am equally excited about driving customer service to new heights together with my talented and resourceful colleagues here in South-east Asia."
Brands under the Maersk Container Business include container shipping subsidiary Maersk Line, Maersk Logistics and MCC Transport - a feeder operator specialising in Intra-Asia routes. [10/09/07]
